|This is a federal state of the Abeldane Empire|
The Kingdom of Demirelia (Norwegian: Kongeriket Demirelia), more commonly known simply as Demirelia and formerly known as the Federal Republic of Demirelia and the Empire of Demirelia, is a federal state of the Abeldane Empire. The annexation of the Empire of Demirelia into the Abeldane Empire on 30 June 2016 marked the beginning of the Demirelian Kingdom.
Demirelia first came into existence in mid 2015, as a project between Abelden's Stephen I and Nedland's Ned Gunderson. They founded it as the Federal Republic of Demirelia, with its form of government inspired by that of Switzerland. In October 2015 Demirelia was transformed from a federal republic into an empire. During the period from October to November, Stephen was anointed emperor and Gunderson appointed prime minister.
After Gunderson left the community in October 2015, Stephen offered Patrick Renwick the crown as Demirelian Co-Emperor, an offer which was accepted. Demirelia thereby entered into a personal union with both Abelden and Paravia. On May 28, 2016, after Gunderson's return to micronationalism, he was reinstalled as prime minister by Stephen.
At the end of June 2016, a referendum was held in Abelden regarding the question of whether or not the nation should become a federal monarchy, and annex the majority of the members of the Abeldane Commonwealth. After the referendum resulted in an overwhelming majority in favor of federal monarchy, Demirelia was willingly and peacefully integrated as a federal state, and became a kingdom. Co-Emperor Stephen abdicated, whilst Co-Emperor Patrick was proclaimed king of Demirelia, and promptly appointed Mike Lewis as First Minister.
In February 2017 First Minister Lewis resigned his position of First Minister along with his Abeldane citizenship. This prompted the so called February Coup. The coup saw King Patrick I refusing to appoint a replacement First Minister and assuming all state power directly and establishing a de facto absolute monarchy known as the Royal Dictatorship.
The Reichsversammlung, the Abeldane federal Legislature, was from Demirelia's annexation in June 2016 until 30 December 2017 the de facto state legislature of the Kingdom. On 30 December 2017 however, the King promulgated a royal decree establishing the Landsting as the new state legislature and appointing it's new members. Following this, he appointed Lise Næsheim-Renwick to the position of First Minister (later renamed Statskansler). This was seen as the formal end of the Demirelian Royal Dictatorship, though the King continued to in practice directly exercise most state powers.
On 22 April 2018 Statskansler Næsheim-Renwick was dismissed from her position and replaced as Statskansler by Edward Daniels. The Daniels ministry would through the latter half of 2018 attempt to write and promulgate a state constitution before the unofficial abandonment of the project by the end of the year. By early 2019 activity had declined significantly, with there being some discussion between King Patrick and then Vorsitzender Stephen Freayth about the possibility of the establishment of a regency, though nothing became of this. On 29 May 2019 Statskansler Daniels transferred his state citizenship from Demirelia, with Lise Næsheim-Renwick returning to the Statskanslership and forming her second government.
In October 2019, after a protracted period of inactivity, state activity resumed as King Patrick returned to active micronationalism. Through royal decrees the king established two new orders of chivalry, the Order of St. Swithun and the Order of the Mountain, to compliment the already existing Order of Demirelia, established during the Imperial period.
The idea of a written constitution was revisited following its abandonment by the Daniels government a year previously. This push culminated in the writing and unanimous adoption by the Landsting of the Constitutional Charter of 2019 on 10 October 2019, establishing the first written constitutional document in the country’s 4 year history. By December 2019 the question of which language, if any, between Norwegian or English should be the primary language of government had risen to prominence. The Næsheim-Renwick government felt the position of English as the language of communication between Demirelia and the Abeldane federal government was a threat to the Norwegian language’s position in the Demirelian government, and thereby introduced the 2019 Language Law to the Landsting on 5 December, which resulted in the split of the assembly between the pro-law Demirelian National Alliance and the anti-law Demirelian Liberal Party. The law was passed 2-1 on 6 December and was given royal assent the same day.
Demirelia is formally a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, with the unicameral Landsting as it's legislature. The Landsting consists of a minimum of 3 members, appointed and serving at the pleasure of the King. The Statskansler, the Demirelian head of government, is appointed by the monarch and serves as the chair of the Landsting and (in theory) as chief executive officer within the state and advisor to the monarch. In reality, most powers remain effectively exercised in the Royal office.

Demirelia was, during it's time as an independent state, a member of the Abeldane Commonwealth, and so had full official relations with the other nations within the organization. Demirelia also had formal relations with Nedland and the Empire of Paravia during this time. Following annexation into Abelden, the foreign affairs of the Kingdom are handled by the Abeldane foreign ministry.
